Personally, I find that Adblock Plus and Ghostery do a heavenly job of making my internet experience pretty smooth, but sometimes you may need a little more.

Now with technology changing as rapidly as it does, I don’t know how relevant these sites/apps/whatever are, so do some research before you use.  Remember, google is your friend.
